A unique gift that helps MEF make a difference!

You have got an opportunity to help Millennium Elephant Foundation (MEF) by becoming a member of MEF and adopting one or all of our elephants for you, a relative or a friend!

If you have already adopted one of our elephants and would like to renew for another year please visit Adoption Renew

Lakshmi is the diva and matriarch of the foundation. She has starred in many movies including 'Tarzan, the Ape Man'. Lakshmi is the mother of Pooja, the first elephant born in captivity in Sri Lanka.
Pooja is the daughter of Lakshmi and pride of MEF. She is the first elephant born in captivity. Now in her 30's, she is still our baby. Despite her small frame and crooked tale, she has a huge appetite.
Rani is a wonderful, quiet, and placid elephant with huge eye lashes. A resident at MEF for over 12 years. She loves to eat lemon puff biscuits. Rani and her mahout Chandana have a very special bond.
Kavari Raja is a huge crossed tusker. A gift from India to the 'Temple of the Tooth' in Kandy. He came to retire at MEF due to a leg injury that healed in it's deformed state. He is very quiet and content.
Raja has just retired from the logging industry.
Ranmenika is a cheeky elephant that loves eating and stealing other elephants food. Despite problems with her legs, and digestive system, her time at MEF has helped improve her life for the better.
Kandula is an unassuming character and very laid back. He has no tusks, instead he has tushes which is an incisor-tooth that sticks out from the lips. Kandula has impaired vision in his left eye.
Saliya is a lovely laid back elephant! He loves to lie and relax in the river.

The elephants that are at Millennium Elephant Foundation (MEF), currently costs around 7000 rupees (£36/$45) per elephant, per day to keep them here. These costs include renting the elephant from their owner, providing food and daily vitamins for the elephants, and paying the wages of a mahout (the person who looks after the elephant). This does not include the cost of any extra medical treatments or emergencies the elephant may need.

Adopting an elephant from Millennium Elephant Foundation would make a lovely unique gift for a friend or relative. You will be helping the elephants and all of the money goes directly to looking after the elephants. If you adopt 3 or more of our ellies then you will receive a complimentary Elephant Walk Experience with lunch for 2 people (worth 12,000 rupees)! It is a great opportunity for you to come and meet the elephants you have adopted, and see them up close and personal.

Your adoption payment goes directly into funding the elephants upkeep, vitamins and medicines to improve their lives.

As a MEF member you will receive:
  • Free admission to MEF for one year.
  • Adoption certificate printed on elephant dung paper.
  • Introductory letter from MEF's President.
  • Information sheets about MEF, elephant facts and MEF projects.
  • Elephant fact sheet and photo of your adopted elephant with details about their history and personality traits.
