On Saturday 5th December we, the volunteers at Millennium Elephant Foundation, attended a ceremony in Habarana in order to celebrate the opening of a brand new well. The village organised a celebratory show, full of speeches, singing and lots of dancing. The children performed a number of group dances and were dressed in a variety of fabulously colourful outfits. There was a great sense of community spirit during the performances and the families of the children were beaming with pride watching them on stage. It was really great to see and be a part of. After the show was finished, we handed out brand new school bags filled with books, pencils and other stationary needed for school to the local children. It was lovely to see the made up faces of the kids and the appreciation of the parents. It was an all together very enjoyable and rewarding day.
