I arrived yesterday and began my first day this morning. All the volunteers which were already here have been so helpful and friendly. The accomadation is much better than I thought too. I have really enjoyed the food here in Sri Lanka so far which has suprised me as I’m not that great eith spicy food.
The smell of the elephant dung this morning may take me a bit of getting used to 🙂 but it was really lovely going into the river to help wash him after. I’m looking forward to getting a bit more involved tomorrow morning.
After breakfast we helped out with a bit of gardening and planting elephant food. It was hard work in the heat but everyone pitched in and it was good fun!
I went into Kagelle with another volunteer on a tuktuk which was different. We looked around the market and brought some fruit and tea bags etc. Things are cheap and the transport only cost 250 rupes (2 pound ish) there and back.
Im getting tired to after dinner I will probably relax with a book before having an early night. I am looking forward to the next 2 weeks here.
